System Quality Assurance Testing
Introduction
One of TALON Technical Sales, a distributor of LABTECH and Advantech
products, customers builds gas analyzer systems for the petro-chemical
industry. In a single plant multiple systems work together,
and each system contains anywhere from 1 to 5 analyzers. Being
able to test the systems together was proving to be quite an
obstacle, considering the quality assurance tests last for up
to 15 days with a sampling rate of once every 5 minutes. An
added complication is that the systems will need to start and
end their test at different times.
System
Solution
In
an effort to automate both the testing process and the reporting
process an ADAM
5000/TCP with one ADAM
5051 digital input board and five ADAM
5017 analog input boards were utilized. The software used
to read the inputs from the ADAM system is LABTECH
CONTROLPro.
Conclusion
The combination of Advantech hardware and LABTECH software enabled
the user to create a scenario with the ability to start and
stop logging for individual systems, visually alert him to a
system failure, as well as send the data for all of the systems
in individual Excel worksheets. The Excel worksheets were setup
in a manner so that when the test was complete all that was
needed was to print the work sheet and provide them to the customer.
An added bonus was that while the test was running the Excel
worksheets are populated and graphics supplied in real-time
from CONTROLpro. This enabled TALON's customer to show others
how the tests were progressing. The ability to log data in real-time
to Excel, as well as start and stop individual systems transformed
there quality assurance testing from a cumbersome process to
an effective automated task, with professional reports generated
during the test process.
