 Advantech's
new PCA-6740 is a half-size ISA bus SBC with an onboard, embedded,
low-power 133 MHz STPC Elite processor. Other onboard features
include a VGA/LCD controller for 24-bit LCD TFT display and an
optional 10/100 Mbps PCI Ethernet interface. 62-level watchdog
timer and jumperless on-line setup are supported. SSD
DOC support is provided, with CompactFlash™ Type l/II as
an option. Another option is the PC/104 expansion connector.
With this
board, system engineers will now be able to upgrade their 386-based
systems to 486 level with increased confidence, partially because
a 486 level STPC Elite processor is mounted directly on the board.
Mounting CPUs directly on board eases configuration and installation
because there is no need to set any jumpers for speed or voltage
differences between various CPUs. In addition to ease of configuration,
the STPC Elite 133 MHz low-power CPU has been specially designed
to work well in environments with temperatures up to 60°C
without need of a fan. Eliminating the CPU fan significantly reduces
MTBF, and increases application possibilities.

1. Fanless
operation: Traditional 486 CPU SBCs usually have a heatsink/fan
module. Once the fan breaks down, the machine fails without notice.
2. Onboard
32 MB SDRAM: Better than the usual SIMM memory on most 486
SBCs, which is both expensive and hard to find. If the onboard
32 MB SDRAM is not sufficient, an optional 144-pin SODIMM SDRAM
socket is available as an add-on.
3. High
performance/price ratio: Giving the most performance for the
money has always been a high priority for the PCA-6740 SBC.
4. DOC
and CompactFlash™: DOC 2000 is always onboard, and CompactFlash™
Type I/II is optionally available for added application flexibility.
