Advantech's
new PCI-1670, PCI-bus GPIB Card, Commonly Asked Questions
Advantech's
new PCI-1670 is a high-performance PCI-bus card with a GPIB
interface. The card is fully compatible with IEEE 488.1 and
488.2 standards with its PCI 2.1 bus specific action. With
two driver control modes: controller mode and slave mode;
PCI-1670 can perform basic the IEEE 488 talker, listener and
controller functions required by IEEE 488.2. You can also
connect up to 15 GPIB devices. Therefore, PCI-1670 is especially
suitable for instrument measurement and control.
The PCI-1670
is available for Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP and DOS, and
it supports complete drivers and libraries. To make driver
development easier, PCI-1670 comes with example drivers programmed
in: Visual C++®, Borland® C++ Builder®, Labwindows/CVI®,
Visual Basic®, Delphi® and LabVIEW®. Furthermore,
PCI-1670 also offers powerful testing features and a configuration
utility that allows users to easily access and control instruments.
PCI-1670
offers a comprehensive supplementary controller driver database
and provides NI-like commands to help users develop applications.
Users can use an interactive GPIB window interface to control
devices directly without any need of programming.

Frequently
Asked Questions:
Q: What is GPIB?
A: It's a 'General Purpose Interface Bus', that allows you
to connect a PC and an instrument together. This makes it
possible to use a PC to control instruments and read their
measurements.
Q: What applications is the PCI-1670 GPIB Card designed for?
A: With this high-performance GPIB card, users can connect
up to 15 GPIB devices. Therefore, PCI-1670 is especially suitable
for instrument measurement and control. PCI-1670 also offers
powerful testing features and a configuration tool that allows
users to easily access and control instruments.
Q: What's the standard of your GPIB card?
A: It's standardized for IEEE-488, IEEE-488.1 and IEEE-488.2.
(IEEE-488.2 covers both IEEE-488 and IEEE-488.1.)
Q: Does it support the LabVIEW driver?
A: Yes. Furthermore it supports libraries for users to operate
with the most popular programming languages, even commands
similar to those used by National Instruments® are provided
to help programmers that are familiar with LabVIEW® and
LabWindows/CVI®.
Q: Which operating systems can your GPIB card run on?
A: Windows® 2000/95/98/ME/NT/XP® and DOS, and it fully
supports drivers and libraries. To facilitate driver development,
the PCI-1670 comes with sample drivers programmed in: Visual
C++®, Borland C++ Builder®, LabWindows/CVI®, Visual
Basic®, Delphi® and LabVIEW®.
Q: How can I replace National Instrument's GPIB card?
A: The product comes with a driver and a startup guide that
shows you how to replace the card and the driver.
Q. Has any performance testing been run on Advantech's PCI-1670
GPIB Card?
A. Yes. The aim of the test was to determine the performance
of the transfer rate for the Advantech PCI-1670 GPIB card.
This includes IEEE 488 bus 3-wire handshake rates and block
data transfer rates .The test platform used an IPC with a
Pentium III 1.0G Hz CPU , 128 SDRAM and a 7200 r.pm. hard
disk. DUT is the Agilent E4401B spectrum analyzer. Click
