Criminal Investigation Recording Equipment
Project Introduction:
In North America, the police departments, in most cases, are required by law to record all homicide interviews. The police officer doesn’t want to be concerned about setting up, turning on, and making sure the recording equipment is operating properly as this may cause the individual being investigated to be less cooperative. The police officer should only be concerned with the interview and getting results. Therefore, Interview Recorder, Inc. provides recording equipment that is very cost competitive and simple to operate. The easy-to-use hardware and software can be used for managing various case files. If the interviews are carried out using the proper procedures and the audio/video recording is clear, this tool can be very effective getting convictions
System Requirements:
Interview Record, Inc. needed a system that was a very dependable and easy to use solution to enable the police to record an interview session. There could be no additional staff involved and the system must be completely automated to ensure that the police officer would only have to carry out the investigation.

System Description:
Interview Record, Inc. developed a system using an Advantech ADAM-6060 connected to a door lock and LED switch located just outside the entrance to the interview room and when the officer turns the key to enter the room the LED light switches on. At this point, the recording equipment, mounted in a camera in the top corner of the room, automatically starts to record the room. The person being investigated doesn’t even realize the camera is on. When the interview has finished and the officer leaves the room and locks the door, the LED light switches off and the camera stops recording. There is zero manual work that needs to take place.
Conclusion:
The ability of the Advantech ADAM-6060 to recognize when the officer is entering the room and its ability to turn on the recording equipment allows the police officer to know that they will not have to concentrate on anything other than the interview. This solution provides additional safety since the officer can focus on the suspect at all times and reduces the chances that a suspect may become uneasy when the officer is setting up the equipment before the interview. Interview Recording, Inc. along with Advantech’s ADAM-6060 provides a perfect solution for interviewing all those who help the police with their enquiries. |
