Effortless Computing Performance Upgrade with COTS Gaming Ready Platform

Date: 5/7/2019 12:00:00 AM

Introduction
As casino gaming machines increasingly becoming more and more multimedia-intensive, customers require more powerful computing platforms with greater bandwidth, faster processors and high performance graphics hardware in order to display high-definition media-rich content on two or more screens.   A long standing Advantech OEM customer in Las Vegas, Nevada is looking to upgrade their gaming computer platform for a new market.

The Challenge
OEMs of electronic casino gaming machines are governed by many regional jurisdictional regulations and certification requirements for their company and products. That means, in order to upgrade any slot machine platforms or to sell their end solutions into new markets, OEM must re-certify the new platform with each regional jurisdiction they plans to sell into.  Some markets also require specific security features that many OEMs do not have, such as SAS networking (slot accounting system) and/or BIOS level media validation (SecureBoot).

The Solution
Advantech offered the DPX-S445 full-featured gaming platform (a COTS product) that is based on Intel 6th/7th generation Core I CPU for this migration project. The DPX-S445 is a full-featured gaming platform with all the hardware interfaces, onboard features and security needed for a typical slot machine in the regulated casino gaming market. The gaming subsystem is also field proven and approved by regulatory labs for markets worldwide.

DPX-S445 Key Features:
  • Comprehensive gaming features
  • Full featured Driver API for IO and security ·
  • Supports Intel 7th plus 6th generation Core-I CPUs, which has lifecycle up to 10 years, ensuring customers a long-lived and future ready platform.
  • Product long lifecycle and backwards compatibility ensuring customers that they can move to new technology on their own terms rather than being pushed along.
  • Supports Linux, Windows 10, and “legacy” Windows 7 (with 6th generation CPUs), and embedded Microsoft operating systems.

    The Result
The DPX-S445 has the mechanical compatibility with the customer’s old gaming platform (the DPX-S435), which made the migration simple. Because the DPX-S445 is a gaming specialized platform, the OEM was able to quickly add SAS and SecureBoot functionality to get the system ready for the new market.
