【New Product Announcement】 TREK-530 In-Vehicle Computing Box with Modularized Expansion for Fleet Management

November 09, 2017 (Taipei,Taiwan) – Advantech, a leading industrial computing platform provider, is pleased to announce its TREK-530 RISC-based in-vehicle computing box with modularized expansion capabilities. Featuring a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 212 APQ8009 quad-core ARM® Cortex™-A7 (1.3 GHz) SoC, Android 6.0, and wide operating temperature range (-20 ~ 65 °C), TREK-530 provides an industrial-grade solution for high-performance in-vehicle computing. Built-in WLAN, Bluetooth, and GNSS (includes BeiDou) modules, as well as external antennas via a FAKRA connector, offer superior connectivity for real-time communication and data transmissions. The system I/O (with IP54-rated cover for dust and water resistance) includes one micro USB OTG, one micro SD slot with cover, one 4-wire RS-232, one 4-wire RS-232/485, and one CAN bus (with raw CAN, J1939, OBD-II/ISO 15765 support), as well as two extension slots for integrating optional expansion modules, such as a 4G LTE module for increased connectivity, LoRa module for long-distance data transmissions, and an emergency backup battery (3.6 V 2100m/Ah) for extended operation (up to 30 minutes). Compatible with 12/24 V vehicle power, TREK-530 also features an intelligent power management system that supports power on/off management, power system protection and diagnostics, and RTC wake-up events for more efficient power consumption. Moreover, to enable intelligent operations, TREK-530 is installed with Advantech’s Android Remote General Utilities System (ARGUS) industrial-grade application framework and relevant APIs and SDKs for developing custom applications that facilitate centralized control and remote management. The system’s ultra-compact, lightweight design and MIL-STD-810G and 5M3 certification for shock/vibration tolerance make it ideal for installation in a wide range of vehicles, including light-duty trucks, taxis, and cold chain transportation fleets.

Ultra-Compact, Lightweight, Industrial-Grade Solution for Fleet Management

Designed to provide a flexible solution for fleet management applications, TREK-530 is ultra-compact (140 x 110 x 50 mm) and lightweight (410g) to ensure easy installation in a wide range of vehicles with limited space, such as light-duty/refrigerated vehicles. The Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 212 APQ8009 quad-core ARM® Cortex™-A7 SoC and extensive I/O provide high-performance computing and flexible configuration. To support real-time communication and data transmissions, TREK-530 is equipped with WLAN, Bluetooth, and GNSS modules that are enhanced with external antennas. The system also features embedded CAN bus with support for raw CAN, J1939, and OBD-II/ISO-15765 protocols to enable vehicle diagnostics.

Modularized Expansion for Flexible Application-Specific Customization 

In addition to built-in WLAN, Bluetooth, and GNSS (including BeiDou) capabilities, TREK-530 can be customized for increased functionality according to specific application requirements. The system’s modularized design features two extension slots for integrating optional expansion modules, such as a 4G LTE module for increased connectivity, LoRa module for long-distance data transmissions, and an emergency backup battery (3.6 V 2100m/Ah) for extended operation (supports up to 30 minutes). By enabling accurate real-time data transmissions between vehicles and a centralized dispatch center, TREK-530 provides a reliable and economical fleet management solution.

ARGUS Industrial-Grade Application Framework Enables Optimized Management

To further enhance the system performance, TREK-530 is equipped with Advantech’s unique Android Remote General Utility System (ARGUS), which serves as an industrial-grade application framework for centralized control, remote monitoring and management, and OTA programming. ARGUS also offers APIs and SDKs for developing custom applications aimed at reducing operating costs and optimizing vehicle diagnostics and management operations.
